Program areas at Kauai Community Science Center

Develop a mobile wifi/steam reasource to serve the west Kauai Community with free wifi and steam content. 9 events in 5 different locations were held througout the year with 184 attendees. This program was supported by a Kauai county cares grant.
Kauai Community Science Center was engaged by alexander and baldwin to conduct a search and rescue of the endangered newell's shearwater. This project was conducted september through december, the period when the young hatchlings become active and occasionaly become lost and become prey to our feral cat population and other predators. The program had 11 participants, searching twice daily for a total of approximately 460 manhours.
Supported by a grant from the county of Kauai, the organiztion created a students sharing Science program, where students develped prototype exhibits. 52 students participated, along with professional exhibit designer from the sciencenter in ithaca, ny.
Kauai Community Science Center had 8 students participating in a volunteer internship program. These students contributed more than 120 hours and participated in both the student sharing Science program and the hotspot program and events.
