Kauai Humane Society

Khs operates an open-admission animal shelter with full services 7 days a week and 24 hour a day emergency support animal services for the county of Kauai. In 2022 our Humane officers responded to 796 calls for assistance. 673 dogs and 646 cats were adopted, complete with health and behavior care, and training info. 355 lost dogs and 58 lost cats were reunited with their families. We also expanded the transfer program, which transfers dogs and cats to the mainland for adoption from other shelters. In 2022/2023 we transferred 185 dogs and 463 cats.

Khs performed spay/neuters, administered vaccines, implanted microchip identifications, and performed other veterinarian care of animals.

Khs offered many programs and services to promote responsible pet care and human-animal bond & to prevent animal cruelty. Our Humane education department provided critter camps, classroom presentations, scout and club workshops and various service learning projects to over 850 Kauai youth. The year-round dog school offered puppy socialization and basic training classes for over 40 families. Additionally, an estimated 35 families received free assistance for their pets from the behavior help-line. Khs is home to one of Kauai's off-leash dog parks for members of the agency. Khs' 178 volunteers gave over 6,500 hours of service to all the programs.
