Description
The Kauai North Shore Community Foundation's mission is to enhance the educational, cultural, and charitable vitality of Kauai's North Shore. They are creating Namahana Public Charter School, a community-centered school where children thrive and learn exceptional curriculum. This year, they filed an application for the charter school and got it approved. They hosted their ninth annual Ohana FitFest to support the health and wellness of families. The fitfest is a family-friendly 5k(ish) run with obstacles throughout Princeville that offer stunning views of the golf course.

Program areas at Kauai North Shore Community Foundation

Knscf is the catalyst for a Community centered school, namahana public charter school, where children can thrive and learn the values we cherish while studying exceptional curriculum. When the school opens in 2025, it will be the only tuition-free secondary school on Kauai's North Shore. Knscf handed over the fundraising and building of the school to a new nonprofit organization: namahana education Foundation. Knscf continues to hold the land license for the initial school site and continues to receive grants and donations for the school. Knscf supports programs at public schools with an emphasis on food security, health and wellness. Knscf continues to award scholarships to students attending Kauai Community college.
Our stewardship of the North Shore dog park (which opened in 2013) continues now for its ninth year. This ada-accessible park in the wai koa plantation features separate play areas for large and small dogs, allowing socialization for both owners and pets in a beautiful leash free and safe environment. This year, knscf completed maintenance on shade structures and landscaping, created park use registration and hosted a volunteer clean-up day.
Knscf supports the health and wellness of our families. This year, knscf hosted its ninth annual ohana fitfest. The fitfest is a fun 5k(ish) run/walk with family-friendly obstacles along the way. The course winds through princeville with stunning views of the golf course and the ocean. All proceeds from the fitfest were donated to North Shore elementary schools for fitness programs and equipment.
