Program areas at Ke Kula Nui O Waimanalo

Malama aquaponics: the malama aquaponics a study tested backyard aquaponics program with native Hawaiian families living in Waimanalo to promote healthy eating and reduce overall health. Aquaponics bring fish and plants together in one closed sustainable system to create a mini ahupua?a in families backyards to provide constant access to vegetables, fruit, and fish.
Waimanalo limu hui: the goal of the Waimanalo limu hui is to regrow the once abundant species of limu in Waimanalo bay for the community to enjoy. By putting spore rich limu back into the bay, the hope is that the spores will spread and attach themselves onto the rocks and coral heads in the nearby area and begin growing once more. The hope is to be able to do this with the different species that were known to grow in the bay. See our limu page for more information on our efforts.
Gods country Waimanalo: the gods country Waimanalo program strives to strengthen and perpetuate everything that is Waimanalo. The main focus of this program is to engage Hawaiian families in programs that are grounded in Hawaiian cultural knowledge, practices and values. A second focus of this program is food security, food sovereignty and food safety through food distribution, active agroforestry food-forest deployment and workshops, and ai pono and laau lapaau workshops.
