The mission of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation is to enhance quality of life by championing and sustaining the arts, promoting early childhood literacy, and supporting research to cure chronic disease. Collaboration and innovation are at the heart of all their programs. Their work is guided by the belief that change is possible through inquiry, creativity and compassion. The Kenneth Rainin Foundation seeks to dramatically improve people’s lives. They aim to do this by funding cutting-edge ideas and collaborating with others with similar values to create the energy to make positive change.

Program areas at Kenneth Rainin Foundation

Arts - deepened focus on systems change framework through intentional learning and strategic investment in innovative models, access to space, and policy & advocacy. Enhanced transparency and access for historically excluded artists by facilitating a series of community dialogues. Undertook a program review and refinement of the new & experimental works (new) program. Created four videos highlighting awardees of the Rainin arts fellowship.
Education - evaluated the impact of the program's system-level strategy to inform a strategic refresh. Curated stories and lessons from grantees to showcase their work and inform philanthropic efforts and policy conversations. Convened grantees and partners to support collaboration and learning. Conducted stakeholder interviews to design grant priorities. Deepened relationships within local and national funding spaces to amplify funding efforts and strengthen grantmaking practices.
Health - hosted an annual health innovations symposium virtually, bringing together early career and seasoned scientists and experts from around the world who are advancing inflammatory bowel disease (ibd) research. Expanded capacity around diversity, equity and inclusion in ibd research. Began exploring a variety of partners who may be eligible for a response fund grant.
