Language revitalization montessori school the Keres childrens Learning Center (kclc) is a keres-language revitalization school that uses an intergenerational approach and the montessori method in service to Keres language and culture in our immersion settings (infant-toddler ages 0-3 and primary ages 3-6) and in our dual language settings (elementary ages 6-12 and adolescent ages 12-18), with monthly language and culture seminars for parents. Kclc has also created the following initiatives: an annual native language symposium, a community-wide keres-immersion mentor-apprentice program, and the indigenous montessori institute (imi), which uses an anti-racist, anti- biased approach, indigenous knowledge systems and the montessori philosophy to deliver teacher training, professional development, and technical assistance for communities endeavoring to enact education reform.
Mentor-apprentice program four adult apprentices and five elder mentors completed kclc's third mentor-apprentice cohort in which apprentices and mentors spent 15 hours or more each week together in a keres-immersion setting.
Indigenous montessori institute the indigenous montessori institute (imi) was created to assist communities in reclaiming an educational model through teacher preparation that is in service to the community. Imi has two tracks: the montessori teacher training track and the philosophy of indigenous education (pie) track. Imi partners with the southwest insitute of montessori studies (sims) to offer montessori teacher training focused on how montessori pedagogy can best serve the needs of indigenous students and communitites. The pie track expanded. In addition to our introductory suryvey course reclaiming indigenous education, pie now offers two additional courses: indigenous language immersion approaches and indigenous school leadership design.
