Conference: the 2023 conference returned to an in-person event on january 26-28 and was well attended and very successful. It was produced once again in partnership with detroit public television. Over 400 attendees attended from across Michigan and from other states as well.the conference planning committee and the school summit committee met to plan the 2023 conference on Suicide: building roads to A better tomorrow, prior to the conference in january 2023, and then to begin planning for the 2024 conference on Suicide: continuing the conversation. Each year the school summit takes place on the first day of the conference. It draws teachers, school counselors, social workers, psychologists and administrators from around the state of Michigan and focuses on youth mental health and Suicide prevention. The second day of the conference is primarily focused on valuable information about Suicide prevention for other at risk populations and appeals primarily to mental health professionals. The third and final day is survivor day, A day that focuses on those who have lost A loved one to Suicide and is also live streamed on facebook.
Community outreach: the loss survivor support group continued to meet twice A month throughout this time period. The meetings were held virtually on the first wednesday and third thursday of each month at the grosse pointe memorial church in grosse pointe farms. Our new group facilitators are greg and estela boudreau and amelia lehto. The number of attendees varies greatly from month to month. Each month Kevins Song produces A newsletter that is sent out in an e-blast that reaches over 3,000 people. The newsletter is also shared on social media and then posted permanently on the Kevins Song website. It is an excellent tool for keeping people updated on the activities that Kevins Song is engaged in, for providing news about developments in Suicide prevention, focusing on the work of our board members, advisors and volunteers as well as our committees. The newsletter always features an important article on Suicide awareness and prevention. When possible, the newsletter posts an an in memory of feature remembering A loved one who was lost to Suicide. Lastly, the newsletter features A book each month related to important suicide-related topics such as dealing with the death of A loved one to suicide.kevins Song maintains A social media presence with frequent posts about mental health and Suicide prevention on facebook, instagram, x, threads and linkedin reaching thousands of people monthly.on sunday, may 7, 2023, the family center of grosse pointe and harper woods along with the peer to peer group of high school students from grosse pointe south high school sponsored A walk in grosse pointe woods for Kevins with the goal of raising awareness as well as funds. Approximately 300 people participated. Many other Community mental health organizations joined the effort.
