Program areas at Kids In Nutrition
KIN's elementary nutrition curriculum provides a foundation for food literacy and healthful dietary change. Teams of five university volunteer instructors visit local elementary classrooms to teach once a week for seven weeks. Lessons are evidence-based and include interactive visuals, hands-on games, physical activity, and group work. In KIN's 2023 fiscal year, we delivered 2,393 lessons across 344 elementary school classrooms, teaching a total of 7,176 elementary school students and engaging 1,242 university student volunteers.
KIN students receive ingredients to prepare a healthy home-cooked meal with their families. KIN provides recipes relevant to cultural contexts, individual preferences, and food allergies. We also provide resources on accessing local and affordable food, utilizing community support, navigating public assistance initiatives, and incorporating healthy budget-friendly meals. In KIN's 2023 fiscal year, we distributed 522 recipe kits and food access resources to underprivileged families.
