Description
Kings Mountain Associated Parents is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that coordinates and represents parents and caregivers of students at Kings Mountain Elementary School (KMES) to maintain long-term success for this distinguished school. As our organization worked through pandemic-related difficulties, our operations were often in flux, leading to changing priorities and opportunities to create a meaningful impact on the education of KMES students.

Program areas at Kings Mountain Associated Parents

The 2022-2023 school year saw the return of many of our traditional fundraisers and events including the Kings Mountain art fair which was one of our biggest fundraisers before the pandemic. With funding levels returning to normal levels kmap held its traditional community building events of a welcome picnic for families before the start of the school year, the first day of school tea & tissues as a mingle for Parents on the first day of school, stone soup, a read-a-thon, fund run, field day, and graduation. Our efforts to support high quality education and a positive educational experience included funding a classroom aid, a dedicated science specialist for the k-3 classes, curriculum supplements including changing perspectives, and assemblies. We continued to fund, in partnership with the school district, a third full time teacher at the school. Kmap provided classroom supplies in the form of a classroom stipend for each classroom as well as for the science program. Kmap also funded a special excursion for the 4/5 classroom to visit alcatraz. Recess support materials were also provided by kmap in efforts to create a positive school experience for all students.
