Kitsap Audubon Society

Of the $13,100 donated, Kitsap Audubon donated $10,000 toward the purchase of the 535 acre shoreline block that includes 1.5 miles of shoreline on port gamble bay. This purchase plays a vital role in the Kitsap forest and bay project whereby the coalition of partners have been working to conserve 6,700 acres of forestland surrounding port gamble bay.

Members of Kitsap Audubon have an opportunity to make a difference in classrooms throughout the county by sponsoring an Audubon adventures classroom kit. The kit is an environmental education program, produced by the national Audubon Society, aimed at 4th and 5th graders. Designed by professional environmental educators, the Audubon adventures program presents basic, scientifically accurate information about birds and other wildlife, habitats and conservation.

Monthly meetings of the membership are held from september through may. Speakers at each meeting present topics relating to conservation and restoration of habitats for birds and other wildlife. In addition, 8 newsletter issues are mailed to all members of record each year covering topics that promote the organization's mission.
