The Knoxville Science Museum, Inc. was established to construct and operate a proposed 150,000 square foot Science Museum to provide area residents and visitors of all ages with interactive opportunities to explore and learn about Science, technology, engineering and math (stem). The city of Knoxville granted a parcel of property near downtown Knoxville to serve as the Museum's site. The property previously housed the Knoxville police department facilities and some city court offices, the last of which was relocated by the city to another property in the summer of 2023. The relocation process was delayed by the covid pandemic and construction problems at the other property. Until the relocation of the police department and city court offices was completed, the Knoxville Science Museum could not begin demolition and engineering site prep at the property.
