KwiahtCenter for Salish Sea is dedicated to Marine and Terrestrial Biodiversity Stewardship. It quantifies the effects of garden pesticides on bats and conducted the first study of tick ecology in islands. The center has assisted the State during avian flu outbreaks and has documented and saved seedling pear & crabapple varieties. Kwiaht has completed 1200 ft of shellfish beds for eco-engineering purposes and helped Tribal educators revive local native-food-plant knowledge. It also helped students grow vegetables in Martian soil simulant, all from its location on Lopez Island, WA.
