College Enrichment Program ene In the late Spring 2017, Southwest Border AHEC collaborated with Southwest Texas Junior College in establishing a summer enrichment program for college students interested in entering the health professions. This was 72 hour program designed facilitate the entry of undergraduate students into medical and/or health care professional schools. The curriculum, which consisted of 4 enrichment courses to enhance their academic skills and competitive standing, included critical thinking, science enrichment study skills, and Communication skills. A total of 16 community college students enrolled in the program with 100% graduating Fourteen students were provided with a $120.00 stipend, 2 students were provided with $110 stipend due to an absence. The Instructors received an honorarium two of the for $750 and the other 2 for $ 950 difference was based on duties and responsabilities being different. Other expenses included materials, supplies, meals, smacks and a field trip to San Antonio, Texas
Del Rio Health Career Summer Camp een In response to our mission in promoting health career activities as a means of recruiting health care professionals, Southwest Border AHEC conducted a health career summer camp for the 3rd year in Del Rio Texas which falls under one of the counties we cover With 18 junior high students enrolled in a one week summer program. Actvities included hands on activities, CPR Training, insights from health care professionals as well as several field trips one of them to San Antonio, Texas.
