Program areas at La Gonave Haiti Partners
LGHP supports ten primary, two middle and one secondary school in ten different communities on the island of La Gonave, Haiti. These schools, in total, educate 1,925 students. The partnership provides financial support for teacher salaries, school supplies and uniforms.
The partnership has a multi-faceted healthcare initiative. The foundation is the Bill Rice Clinic, located in Nouvelle Cite. The clinic is staffed by Haitians including 2 physicians and 10 additional healthcare workers (nurses, midwives, lab technicians & pharmacist). In addition to the clinic, the healthcare initiative includes a 20 community health workers and 16 lay community midwives (Matrones). The partnership supports a maternal health program of remote medical clinics, a childrens nutrition program and provides financial support for the purchase of medicines in country.
Infrastructure improvements including a new middle school plus equipment purchases and maintenance.
The key economic development initiative are a trade school that provides training and materials to 75 adult students and a goat project, which provides goats and animal husbandry training for students and farmers, veterinary clinics in remote communities. It also provides 40-55 students & farmer participants with a pregnant goat.
School Lunch Program in partnership with ReachNow, provides nutritious meals for 25 cents each per day to 1,925 students at schools on La Gonave supported by the organization.
Emergency food assistance provided to communities and families due to political instability, crime and inflation.
Education support for communities on La Gonave through adult literacy classes, school textbooks, equipment and teacher training.
