Ulster county's department of mental health in collaboration with School district leadership across the county, partnered to identify gaps and barriers for youth and families to obtain necessary mental health services. In response to these gaps a School based mental health program was opened by lasalle School and funded by ulster county. The program provides a means of offering mental health services, without the restrictions and barriers to services that have historically hindered service delivery. Each middle School in the district will be assigned a team consisting of a licensed mental health provider and case manager from lasalle School. The teams will each be assigned to two middle schools and carry a caseload of 10 youth and families from each School. School administration will have the opportunity to determine the criteria for referral and collaborate with the lasalle team regarding referral, treatment goals and progress.
Lasalle School has developed a short term, residential shelter program, to meet the needs of unaccompanied children (uc) under a grant by the office of refugee resettlement. This new program has been developed to care for up to 16 males, 12-17 years of age. As a trauma informed agency, all lasalle School staff provide a safe and nurturing environment, sensitive to the age, culture, religion, dietary needs, native language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other important individual needs of each youth referred.
