Program areas at Labanbartenieff Institute of Movement Studies
EducationThis year we ran Modules I, II, II, IV, and the Praxis and Qualifying Tiers of our New Pathways Program. We graduated five (5) CMAs this fiscal year 1 from our Taiwan program, 1 from our China, and 3 from our NY Modular program. We also ran various continuing education courses and our signature introductory courses. Research In February of 2023 we published the inaugural issue of the Journal of Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies. This peer-reviewed scholarly journal will be published twice a year and help to further legitimize our field. June 17-18, 2023 we hosted our second CAMP LBMS: Community and Movement Perspectives in Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies. This two day mini-conference provided a platform for the community to come together around important issues and developments in the field.Arts & CultureDuring the 2022-2023 FY we implemented the final stages of the GWD Education Curriculum Project, which provides a curriculum around Global Water Dances activities to K-12 educators so that they may engage their students in learning about water conservation and preservation through dance. This project will conclude in July of 2023 after receipt of the final report from the education consultant. The finished product, the GWD Curriculum, will be available for free to K-12 educators around the globe. In June of 2023 we presented our biennial Global Water Dances Day, a multinational, community-oriented event that takes place at different water-related sites around the world, to raise awareness about water issues and to celebrate water through movement.
