Program areas at Lackawanna Blind Association
Client support services: caseworkers regularly visit Blind and visually impaired clients in the comfort of their own homes assisting with; shopping, doctors appointments, pharmacy visits, correspondence, banking, mail and bill paying, door-to-door escort service, mini-bus transportation, referrals for orientation & mobility training and to other partner organizations. The life enrichment program includes activities in daily living to help individuals maintain their optimal physical health and remain in their homes. A monthly calendar of events is available in email, audio, print and braille formats to keep clients abreast of the latest agency happenings.visual support center: magnifying devices and other low-vision aids and home care equipment are displayed for demonstration to clients and consumers. Computer instruction in assistive software for the visually impaired is available by appointment for lba clients.eye care program: assistance is provided to purchase eye glasses for income-eligible individuals.
Prevention of blindness: prevention specialists conduct vision screenings and elementary school education programs centered on safety throughout Lackawanna and susquehanna counties. The lba also offers adult vision screenings and education programs at senior centers, civic clubs, health fairs, and industrial sites.
The radio reading service is hosted daily on radio station wusr, 99.5 fm by lba's radio program manager, along with dedicated volunteers. Live broadcasts, for print-handicapped individuals, include reading local news, sports, and community and agency information.
