Program areas at Lady Freethinker
Education and outreach to fight animal cruelty - Lady Freethinker published more than 450 articles and petitions to raise awareness and encourage the public to speak out against animal cruelty. These garnered almost 9 million views and over 5 million petition signatures to stop animal abuse for food, entertainment, clothing and more, as well as urge law enforcement agents and policymakers to treat animal cruelty with the severity it deserves. Lft's investigations and campaigns, including campaigning to end animal cruelty on social media platforms, stop cruelty in the global dog meat trade, and end abuse of captive wildlife, made international headlines in newsweek, bbc, the independent, and more.
We provided intelligence leading to the creation of a bbc documentary bringing attention to monkeys tortured for social media views. We continued to track hundreds of instances of online monkey torture and our investigations have led to the arrest and prosecution of individuals contributing to the abuse. Our work helped lead to the inclusion of animal cruelty in a uk law that will hold social media platforms accountable.
Lady Freethinker's grant program provided funding for rescuers on the ground directly saving animals' lives or raising awareness of animal abuse in their region. In 2023, Lady Freethinker grants helped provide food and veterinary care for rescued animals of a variety of species, including dogs, cats, alpacas, and more. We helped dogs forced to live outdoors by funding warm bedding, shelters, and resources. Our grant program enabled rescuers around the world with limited means to save as many animals as possible.
