Description
Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners preserve and protect the ecology of wetlands in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy to keep natural habitats for wildlife. They encourage only positive land use around the lake. LTPO promotes safe boating practices by organizing and hosting annual boating safety courses. They also own two watercraft, staffed by trained LTPO volunteers who are deputized by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

Program areas at Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners

Lake safety & healthy Lake ecosystem - ltpo promotes safe boating practices by organizing and hosting annual boating safety courses and owns 2 watercraft that are staffed by ltpo volunteers who are trained and deputized by the kosciusko co sheriff's dept. To patrol the 3 Lake basins for unsafe/illegal practices and issue citations, if warranted. Navigational and eco-zone bouys are managed by the the ltpo for boating safety and protection of shorelines. Manipulation of the dam is managed by the ltpo as directed by the state of Indiana dnr for flood control. Ltpo has purchased Property specifically for ease of access for the eminent construction of a new dam to replace the current dam that has outlived its projected lifespan. Treatment of non-native vegetation and noxious algae is funded annually to increase Lake enjoyment.
Annual fireworks display - the fireworks display is funded by contributions from ltpo members for the enjoyment of everyone on the Lake.
Community outreach & education - information about the ltpo's activites is available through the website and through the newsletter, which is sent to all members. The directory is published on an annual basis for use of members and includes ads from area businesses as well as public service announcements on safe boating, emergency numbers, etc, and a listing of members. Dopnations are made to promote water quality awareness to lilly center for lakes & streams through programs such as the lakes festival, calendar contest and classroom aquariums, the Tippecanoe watershed foundation to help promote their programs for water quality education, and to the plain & turkey creek township fire departments.
Other program services - the flotilla is an annual event also taking place durin the 4th of july celebration. Participation for cash prizes is open to anyone, and the piers are packed with families enjoying the parade. The annual fish fry is also open to the public and helps increase the visibility of the ltpo. The fishing contest can be entered by anyone fishing the 3 basins of Lake Tippecanoe with trophies presented for individual best catches.
