Program areas at Lane Motor Museum
The acquisition and preservation of a mostly european collection of automobiles built from 1940-1990. The collection houses unique cars not typically seen in the u.s. It represents a broad cross-section of vehicles-30 marques representing at least eight countries (france, germany, czech, great britain, holland, italy, japan, and the u.s.). It includes the largest tatra collection outside europe, a substantial micro car selection, amphibious vehicles, competition cars, electric/ battery powered cars, military vehicles, and a collection of motorcycles. This is a working Museum, the goal of which is to maintain all the vehicles in a running condition. Efforts are made to restore each vehicle to near original specifications. The Museum is available to the public, as well as students, civic oranizations, and car clubs for educational purposes. Displays detail the cars and the origin of the car company/founder. The Museum also houses an extensive collection of car-related artwork.
In 2023, the Museum rented certain props to a production set for a video shoot. Providing period appropriate props for a video that will be released to the public furthers the Museum's educational mission.
The mission of the Lane Motor Museum is to educate the public about the history of transportation using an eclectic and technically interesting collection of cars and other transportation-related items. The Museum itself is the central way this goal is accomplished. An admission fee is collected from visitors to the Museum.
The Lane Motor Museum periodically holds rally events that allow the public to learn more about certain vehicles in the collection by getting to see them in motion. The opportunity to see the vehicles in motion and to get to try driving them is an educational event that furthers the stated mission of the organization.
The Lane Motor Museum operates a small gift shop in the Museum that offers materials that further the educational mission of the organization.
