English Together

Educational training: implemented three volunteer coaching cycles with an average number of 23 volunteers in palo alto and 23 learners in east palo alto and redwood city. Volunteers and learners met on zoom once a week for 10 sessions. The third coaching cycle saw returning learners from previous groups. Each cycle has involved: recruiting and training volunteers, interviewing learners to evaluate their English learning needs, developing materials to be used in coaching sessions, hosting weekly coaching sessions on zoom, monitoring interactions between learners and volunteers, and conducting evaluations of the experience for both volunteers and learners after each cycle.

An app is being developed to provide workers with an opportunity to practice workplace English on their own time. The app focuses on workplace interactions (fast food, gardening, etc) and offers practice on common phrases used in those interactions. The app will be provided free of charge to all workers who sign up for English Together and to the volunteers who support these workers.
