Program areas at Laredo Immigrant Alliance
Detention Visitation & Monitoring Pilot Program (DVMP) The Detention Visitation & Monitoring Program was created in, and through various stake holder tours at the local immigration centers, we were able to connect with individuals in detention. The program attempts to end isolation and monitor civil and human rights violations, documen, expose, and end them. Court observations at the Laredo Immigrant Court also contribute to the aim of empowering, educating, and organizing individuals to culminate in the abolition of the U.S Immigration Detention System in Laredo, Texas, and surrounding areas.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Educational Session and Clinics LIA's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Educational Sessions and Clinics support DACA receipients by keeping them informed about DACA- related developments, including, but not limited to, court proceedings and policy changes. Moreover, we offer free DACA Renewal Clinics in collaboration with attoneys and organizations, and provide financial assistance to cover renewal costs for those in need. To empower the community, we encourage DACA recipients to independently complete their renewal process to alleviate the burden of hefty legal services fees, and offer them complimentary one-on-one document review assistance. For those who require additional support, we provide assistance by appointment. Some program accomplishments are increased awareness, empowerment, community building, community resilience, and more successful DACA renewal
