Program areas at Larraine Segil Scholars Foundation
Each year, Larraine Segil Scholars Foundation hopes to select 20 or more women as Larraine Segil scholar awardees (the "awardees"). Awardees will be selected from women who defy societal expectations, walk the road less traveled, may be square pegs trying to fit round holes, and live a life of integrity. They will be nominated by community organizations, such as black women who code and the east los angeles community Foundation. Each awardee will be paired with a Larraine Segil scholar (a "scholar"), who will mentor her awardee during one-year period. A commitee of Scholars will select each year's awardees.the Scholars are former recipients of Larraine Segil scholarships. These are scholarships awarded to women students by three different educational institutions. The scholarship program is independent of and unaffiliated with the applicant other than the fact the Larraine Segil Scholars must make a commitment to mentor other women.during the course of their award year, each awardee will participate in one or more 30-minute video calls per month with her mentor and partake in four educational sessions focusing on such topics as career opportunities, developing and tracking career goals, achieving their full potential, and supporting other women to do the same. She also will receive ongoing mentoring from Larraine Segil during Larraine's lifetime.in exchange for their commitment to participate in and benefit from the applicant's mentoring and educational programs, awardees will also be asked to "pay it forward" to future awardees as alumnae of the program.
