Litigation: with increased capacity and expanded law firm and non-profit partnerships, we undertook human and civil rights litigation across core issue pillars, suing multiple new york and Texas jurisdictions for information on policing and prisons and obtaining a court-ordered settlement to reform suffolk county policing. We argued challenges to brutal border policies against immigrants and fought for transparency from ice and cbp. We defended diversity policies in public school districts across the country and filed numerous complaints for low-wage workers. We won language access for voters in rural pa and sued Florida for banning noncitizens from helping register citizens to vote. We challenge discrimination and other constitutional violations by federal, state and local governments, and fight private actors who deprive our communities of wages and access to education.
Legal education - our cap leadership institute (cap) provided critical pre-law services for 1,400 students across the country. This included nearly 100 students for our annual law day fair that drew more than 80 law schools; 65 students who attended intensive weeklong law school admissions boot camps; eight law students who participated in paid summer internships we placed through our corporate law firm alliance summer program (clasp); and hundreds of students who attended workshops, received one-on-one counseling and other services. Nine clasp fellows were offered post-graduation positions at their respective law firms, continuing our record of 100% post-fellowship employment rate. And our lideres board comprised of 30 young professional leaders actively supported, volunteered and recruited peer volunteers for programs serving hundreds of students pursuing professional pathways and also raised awareness about ljp's social justice advocacy campaigns.
Communications and advocacy: in advocacy, we played a critical role in supporting legislative advocacy efforts to enact state voting rights acts in ct, pa and nj. We also championed language access efforts in fl, ga and md. Our criminal legal experts focused on outreach to moderate and conservative demographics regarding the harms of mass incarceration and disproportionate policing of communities of color, as well as abolitionism and solitary confinement and parole reform. We are working to close the slavery loophole for the 13th amendment and to ensure voting access for returning citizens from incarceration. We are actively opposing operation lone star in Texas, engaging with community-based immigrant rights organizations to identify priorities aligned with our criminal legal work, and monitoring immigration courts for due process violations. We also launched our pilot cohort of the formerly incarcerated persons (fip)academy, providing leadership and advocacy training to those seeking employment in social justice organizations.
