Program areas at League of Minority Voters
The speech and leadership program - continued expansion of our speech and leadership programs to community colleges in Oregon. The program recruited students from low income backgrounds, mostly first generation students. They discussed current events and learned various skills which included effective story telling, types of positions, how to be a great leader. These skills are key to becoming leaders committed to addressing the most important community issues our society faces.
Lmvs regional equity initiative has successfully established an inclusive platform for discussions around equity and diversity within oregons communities. Achievements include the following: trained community and business leaders on regional equity solutions. Assisted Washington state university in developing its dei compass. Collaborated with Oregon institute of technologys wilsonville campus on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Partnered with energy trust of Oregon on their dei initiatives. Worked with the city of portland to address transportation and digital disparities. Collaborated with Oregon food bank to promote more inclusive food policies. Provided support to corporations and government entities on regional equity matters. Organized a poverty summit to engage local leaders, business representatives, and government officials in meaningful dialogue about these critical issues.
The liberty and hope awards events brought community business and political leaders together to encourage and educate the public about civic engagement and involvement. Honors were given to local leaders who have supported Minority and low income citizens. Funds were raised at the events to benefit youth leadership programs and voter participation initiative.
