Advocacy - the League advocates independently and works in coalition with other advocacy organizations on ballot measures and legislation. From july 2022 to june 2023, 2 of the bills we supported were chaptered into law; 32 bills we supported either died or were made into two-year bills. We opposed 2 bills; all of which either died or were made into two-year bills. For a full report on our legislative advocacy, see bit.ly/bsrlist. In november 2022, the League advocated in support of 2 measures on the ballot, both of which passed. Some of the legislation we supported were: ab 256 (kalra, 2022) to make the provisions of ab 2542 retroactive; ab 2841 (low, 2022), built safeguards to prevent erroneous voter registration purges and protect the voting rights of people with disabilities under conservatorship; aca 4 (bryan), a constitutional amendment to restore voting rights to people who are currently incarcerated.
