Program areas at League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County Sub League of Women Voters of Wisconsin
Voter services- lwvmc hosted four candidate forums attended in person by 290 people. The comite por el voto latinx partnered with over 25 community institutions and organized 47 resource tables to reach over 2,925 individuals with the League's bilingual materials. Comite por el voto latinx produced bilingual election resource guides for 4 elections and, along with other materials, translated these materials into spanish that were shared with approximately 50 organizations or community leaders. The community outreach team held events with 39 different partner organizations, resulting in 195 voter registrations and 1464 conversations with people about voting. Seven community and nonprofit organization online voter registration training sessions were held. The high school voter registration team assisted 807 students with voter registration and made 61 visits to area high schools. The Milwaukee county jail (mcj) and community reintegration center (crc) voter registration team held 39 registration events; registered approximately 123 people; requested 127 absentee ballots; and talked with 328 people who were interested in voting. The public library outreach team had 15 voter registration events at the central and branch libraries, where we registered 57 people and provided literature and information to 250 people. All total in fiscal year 2023-2024, our community outreach effort resulted in 1843 voter registrations. We helped over 200 people request absentee ballots. We educated over 12,000 people through face-to-face contact. All of our efforts are directed at those that are traditionally underserved and disenfranchised. We did this work through our dedicated volunteers who contributed over 2800 hours for our work.
Civic engagement & advocacy - published 4 voter bulletins and 51 weekly updates for 400+ members and 800 prospective members and friends; maintained website and regularly posted on social media (1500+ facebook followers, 750+ instagram followers and 500+ twitter followers); communicated with the community with lwvmc press releases; tv, radio and podcast appearances, and published letters to the editor.
Member education- provided staff, office, conference rooms with virtual connectivity and wi-fi, use of copier, and scanner to members, committees, leaders and board members; provided opportunities for 400+ members to attend state and national events; provided 400+ members with opportunities to support the League's mission through volunteer opportunities; and connected 400+ members to local, state and national educational programs. Hosted a kickoff supper in september (attended by 100 members and friends) and an annual meeting in may (attended by 100 members). Sponsored virtual and/or in-person public issues forums attended by members and friends. Hosted lunch n learn forums, League cafe book clubs, and general meetings.
