Head start/early start is funded to serve pregnant women and children ages 0-5 who reside in Washington County, of whom 10% have disabilities.we provide center based programming in 5 locations, in addition to a comprehensive home-based program option. Head start/early start coordinates with many other agencies in providing programs and services to Washington County residents in meeting their daily needs.
Community services block grant (csbg) funding provides funds to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in local communities. Csbg funding supports transportation needs for the elderly (age 60+), as well as those seeking work. It also helps to address food and shelter insecurity through a food pantry, community garden and emergency assistance to prevent utility shutoff and/or eviction for low income people in Washington County. Csbg funding also supports coordination of resources across the County to expand outreach and awareness for individuals and families to lessen the effects of poverty.
Workforce innovation and Opportunity act (wioa) funding streams provide career services for both adults and youth, including dislocated workers. Our employment and training program coordinates with our local and state agencies to provide programs and services to Washington County residents to meet their needs, including access to the job search career center and training scholarships.
Energy services program which primarily runs in the summer (funded by nys heap) as well as a partnership with the office of the aging to help with one-time projects for the elderly.
