Description
The Learning Disabilities Association serves individuals, families and communities impacted by learning differences through its mission to equip and inspire learners to thrive and lead fulfilled lives. Its Learning Connections program provides intensive academic instruction for low-income children and youth, support for their parents, and resources for classroom teachers. The Instructional and Support Services arm offers individualized tutoring, executive function skill building, workshops, support groups and consultations to those affected by learning disabilities and attention deficits.

Program areas at Learning Disabilities Association

Teacher Preparation and Licensure approved by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, LDAs Teacher Preparation Program provides training and clinical experiences necessary to obtain an Academic Behavioral Strategist special education teaching license. During FY2023, LDA Minnesota graduated five teacher candidates by recommending them for licensure. LDA welcomed its fourth cohort to the program and had a total of 19 candidates enrolled in the program.
Assessment Services includes learning and attention-deficit diagnostic assessments and individual consultations to identify and document academic strengths and challenges, document the presence or absence of a disability, and provide strategies for accommodating their learning and attention difficulties, thereby increasing life outcomes. Thirty-seven (37) children, youth and adults were assessed during FY2023; 99% reported gaining self-knowledge and strategies to achieve their goals.
Learning Connections focuses on preventing severe academic difficulties or school failure by providing intensive reading, writing and math instruction for low-income children and youth, support for their parents, and resources for classroom teachers. In FY2023, the Learning Connections program enrolled 252 children; 90% of students showed positive growth and 66% exceeded academic growth expectations as measured on pre- and post-tests. Parents of participating students reported their childs confidence has grown significantly and their childs skills have shown improvement over the course of the school year.
Instruction and Support Services provides individualized tutoring, executive function skill building, workshops, support groups and consultations for children, youth, adults and families affected by learning disabilities and attention deficits. These highly individualized services improve learning strategies and skills to help children and adults meet their academic, vocational and personal goals at school, home, and work. LDA provided service to 102 children, youth, parents and adults during FY2023 with 95% achieving target goal or reporting gaining useful information and strategies.
