Program areas at Learning Equality

In 2023, Learning Equality continued to develop kolibri, our adaptable end-to-end suite of open-source tools, educational resources, and support materials designed for offline-first teaching and Learning, now available in 31 languages, and used in more than 220 countries and territories, with over 38,000 new known installations in 2023. We developed ai-driven tools to automate curriculum alignment, ensuring that open educational resources are contextualized for local needs. Our new "flying colors" program piloted in uganda successfully enhanced literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills among out-of-school refugee and host learners, with dramatic gains made in only 12 weeks. We also expanded our partnerships, including a new collaboration with digital promise and blue butterfly in haiti to support blended Learning, and with the ilo, unhcr and unicef in uganda as part of the prospects for connected Learning, digital skills, and microwork program aimed at improving livelihoods and employment opportunities. We directly trained over 113 educators through partner projects in guyana, kenya, uganda and south sudan, and kicked off an east africa community of practice using whatsapp. Celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2023, we reaffirm our commitment to equitable, inclusive, and accessible education for all learners, even in the most remote areas.
