Program areas at Lexington Lions Club Endowment
The bluegrass council of the blind, Inc. Provides information, education, advocacy and referral resources to blind and visually impaired adults in fayette and surrounding eastern Kentucky counties. Among the services offered are: peer counseling, referral to appropriate agencies or programs to assist individuals in their adjustment to blindness, educational and social activities, advocacy services for the blind and a speakers' bureau to promote the potential of blind or visually impaired individuals with the community. All services offered by the council are free of charge.
Visually impaired preschool services, Inc. (vips) offers appropriate services to families of infants and toddlers with visual impairments to maximize each child's developmental potential through direct services, advocacy and community education. Vips is the only private, non-profit agency dedicated to meeting the needs of blind or visually impaired infants, toddlers and their families.
The lion'Lions's eye bank of Lexington is responsible for procuring and placing human eye tissue for transplantation. The Lions eye bank of Lexington advances ophthalmic research and training to better servce the local, state, national and international community. Policies and procedures will follow the guidelines and regulations set forth by the eye bank association of america and the food & drug administration. The Lions eye bank of Lexington collaborates with the trust in the state of Kentucky for the citizens of the commonwealth and promotes awareness for eye, tissue and organ donation.
Lexington hearing & speech center, leader dogs for the blind and the independent transportation network, all support the prevention and cure of blindness through research, eye banks and eye clinics.
