Program areas at Conservation International
In this tax year, the organization has worked to fundraise, grow its endowment, and build its grant-making and organizational capacity to deliver on its charitable purposes. The organization continued to work with its investment manager to ensure that the existing endowment is wisely and broadly invested, in ways likely to achieve its intended returns while safeguarding capital. While the organization is still working on efforts to receive matching funds pledged from the government of Liberia, its endowment has grown to the point where it is comfortable to begin the process of granting funds towards Conservation activities in Liberia, starting in the next tax period. In addition, the organization ramped up its fundraising efforts engaging multiple donors from multilateral institutions, the government of Liberia, foreign governments (and their development agencies), non-profit organizations, and the general public. The organization started a social media campaign, a dedicated fundraising website with the support of partners, and raised funds from the general public. In addition, the organization signed grant agreements with Conservation international totaling over $118,000 in grant funding to the organization for short-term expenditures. The organization also worked with consultants, the government of Liberia, and potential donors to identify areas for organizational improvement and strengthening. The organization hired a consultant to revise and/or draft its operational and grant-making documents. Likewise, the organization concluded an administrative services agreement with Conservation international Liberia to provide administrative services to the organization, and in particular, begin the work of scoping and issuing the first grant to support Conservation in or around the east nimba nature reserve in Liberia.
