Program areas at Life Management
Life Management provides social service programs to 13 affordable housing projects located throughout essex and hudson counties. The services provided by Life Management include educational, health and fitness and social activities for both adults and children. The services are free to the residents of these housing projects and are provided through staff and consultants paid for by Life Management. Life Management, Inc. offers approximately 6,000 hours of services to 1,023 households, as well as 197 adult/ youth education programs, 188 empowerment workshops, 154 art and recreation workshops for all ages, 30 art workshops specifically for youth, and 46 health and fitness workshops for all ages. Life Management also operates connections/ mentoring programs for girls and boys serving seven sites. The programs meet once a week throughout the year. Homework/computer labs are offered to each site, and are open for varying hours site dependent. The labs help the students gain access to help and computers that they may not have access to outside of school. In addition, summer camps operated for the convenience of 3 sites, which enabled the youth to leave their apartments for a supervised setting while their parents were at work in the summer when school was not in session.
Life Management, Inc. Provided home repairs to 127 essex county homeowners and caregivers in 2022. Lmi saved many seniors from institutions and restrictive settings, by not only repairing their homes, but by installing ramps, grab bars, stair lifts and providing a variety of other improvements which allowed for greater mobility and safety in the comfort of their own homes.
Life Management Inc. Provides assistance to 127 senior citizens in the form of residential maintenance programs.
Life Management was gifted a property which was valued at $815,000 at the time and was located at 22 pleasant avenue in montclair. (the property which was originally going to be used to establish a community garden and small fitness studio.) That idea was short lived and lmi decided to sell the property. Lmi had a buyer who was unable to close on time in 2022, but when it does close in 2023, the property will bring in some unrestricted funds to the agency. In the meantime, lmi asked the buyer for $25,000 for taxes and maintenance costs. And $25,000 in escrow if it did not close by the end of 2022. These funds were used to take care of the lawn, remove debris and poison ivy during 2022. In addition to the above, in 2022 Life Management, Inc. Continued its role as a partner in hinchliffe stadium redevelopment and construction of 77 units of senior housing. As a nonprofit partner, lmi enabled the developers and city to secure funds that were only available to the team via lmi as the nonprofit partner. The extensiveness of the project and huge costs were offset by the contributions made via Life Management's involvement with hinchliffe stadium. Lmi was also involved in an advisory capacity to the hinchliffe senior housing construction particularly related to the community room where lmi will operate activities in 2023.
