Program areas at LifeROOTS
Contracts: this division engages in contractual custodial and grounds maintenance. Seventy-five percent of the direct labor performed on these contracts is by individuals with severe disabilities who could not maintain employment without Liferoots support and training. Federal employment opportunities are provided by the abilityone program, a federal set-aside program created by the javits wagner o'day (jwod) act in 1971. Sourceamerica, which was established to implement the abilityone program, assists Liferoots with managing jwod- abilityone contracts. Liferoots also performed services for state and municpal governments as a subcontractor to another nonprofit company, through a state-use program. Other contracts are won through competitive bidding. All of Liferoots employment opportunities for adults with disabilities are integrated into the community. The contracts division employs an average of sixty individuals; an additional five individuals are employed through enclave contracts. Seventy-five percent of the direct labor employees are severely disabled and the average wage of the direct labor is 15.00 an hour plus benefits.
Adult community services: contract services - this program provides opportunities in the world of work to adults with disabilities and special needs. The program matches individuals with employers to jobs that fit both parties' needs and abilities. The program also provided job coaching support to individuals with disabilities employed in Liferoots' custodial contracts as well as to individuals placed in Liferoots' enclave contracts. Day habilitation - this program served adults with developmental disabilities by providing integrated and individualized community-based services. Individuals participated in activities such as exploration, recreation, education, and community service, customized for the individual's needs. Day habilitation services were discontinued as of april 2023. Skills for success - this program dedicated time, space, and equipment to help individuals discover their natural gifts, clarify vocational pursuits and obtain specifc resources toward developing employment strategies and succeed in realizing their passions in the community. The skills for success program included career readiness, language arts as well as math literacy, and encouraged adult students to learn independently, develop critical thinking skills and participate in group activities. The program was discontined in april 2023. Liferoots adult community services served approximately 100 adult clients monthly.
Early intervention services: this division provides intervention services and therapeutic support to children ages birth to three years old, by working with families to identify the needs of children who may have delays in development, uneven patterns of growth, or are at risk due to factors in their environment. Services are delivered in the child's home, remotely by computer or at one of the organization's locations and consist of: - evaluation and assessment - speech, occupational and physical therapies - therapeutic educational services therapy services - as provided by certified and licensed therapist in the following areas: - occupational therapy - assists with sensory development, fine motor skills, visual perception and visual motor skills to enhance a child's ability to function with their environment. - physical therapy - helps with an individual's endurance, body awareness, and strengthening to achieve optimal abilities. - speech and language therapy - helps children at all levels of communication realize confidence and independence. Services were provided to approximately 300 children during the year.
