Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind empowers individuals who are blind and visually impaired to gain independence by providing rehabilitation instruction, guidance, and skills training. This year alone, 1,336 people and their families, professionals, local employers, and the general public have benefited from our programs. We offer independent living adult program that supports our mission to help each client achieve their best potential.

Program areas at Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind

1,311 people who are Visually Impaired and Blind, their families, professionals, the general public and local employers benefited this year from Lighthouse programs. Our independent living adult program provided rehabilitation instruction and guidance that helped 262 individuals to acquire skills and knowledge to manage their lives as adults to live more independently in their homes and communities with a maximum degree of self-direction. Vocational rehabilitation provided job preparedness training for 49 Visually Impaired adults including use of assistive technology and computers. Transition programs provide year round training and services to teenagers to prepare them for the transition from highschool to the work force or college. Early intervention programs enhance all areas of child development for children birth through five years of age and their families. Industry programs provide direct, paid competitive employment to persons who are legally Blind. Product assembly and packaging is performed and sold to government and commercial customers. Children's programs provide recreational and social activities to children ages 5-13 who are Visually Impaired. Lighthouse also has a low vision store to purchase adaptive aids.
