Program areas at Lights Camera Discover
In the tax year 2023, Lights Camera Discover (lcd) continued its mission to provide underrepresented youth with opportunities to learn and develop skills in the performance and digital arts, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to pursue careers in steam (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) fields. Key accomplishments during this period include: 1.program reach and expansion: expanded programming to serve over 190 students across 2 locations in phoenix and tempe. Lcd's educational programs offered a comprehensive curriculum including filmmaking, animation, coding, and podcasting. Continued collaboration with community partners such as best buys blue gives back program and local schools to enhance student learning opportunities. 2.workforce development and steam education: launched new initiatives under our steam workforce development program, focusing on job readiness, interview skills, and professional development. Provided job training and mentoring for youth to foster career pathways in digital arts, animation, and related fields. 3.awards and recognition: lcd received several notable awards throughout the years, including the nbc channel 12 'non-profit spotlight award,' the south by southwest 'community service organization' award, and the phoenix suns 'golden standard' award, in recognition of our innovative and impactful programs. 4.staff and student support: increased operational capacity with the addition of two part-time employees to support program development and execution. Provided scholarships and financial assistance to all 190 students, enabling them to participate in lcd programs. 5.community engagement: hosted 4 community events showcasing the work and achievements of lcd students, including film screenings, art exhibits, and performances, furthering the organizations reach and impact in the community. Through these accomplishments, lcd remains dedicated to empowering youth and helping them realize their potential through creative expression and steam education.
