The Literacy Network (litnet) has been providing free, one-on-one tutoring sessions for adults since 1991. Our curriculum offers english for speakers of other languages (esol), citizenship test preparation, hiset test preparation, and adult basic education to better serve the large population of immigrants who live and work in Berkshire county. By providing fundamental educational support, litnet strives to give our adult learners the tools they need to succeed in their jobs, support their families, and engage with their local communities. In 2023, litnet served a total of 330 learners in its one-on-one tutoring programs. Tutors reported more than 100 specific incidents that showed evidence of learner progress in english speaking, comprehension, reading, or writing. Thirteen learners became u.s. citizens, all of whom were recipients of the matthew and hannah keator family scholarhip for new americans, and 25 learners got new jobs or advanced in their careers. In 2023 litnet has supported about 185 active learner-tutor pairs each month.
