Program areas at Livermore Lab Foundation
Uc climate actionas part of a two-year statewide initiative, uc awarded funds to llf to conduct climate action innovation and entrepreneurship activities in partnership with lawrence Livermore national Lab (llnl). Llf is supporting a cohort of students to work with Lab mentors on climate tech-related research; conducting industry research on workforce development considerations to support the future carbon economy; and engaging with community organizations to explore potential benefits and risks associated with scaling up climate technologies.
Through academic, community, and professional partnerships, llf offers fellowship and internship opportunities for undergraduate through post-doctoral scholars at lawrence Livermore national Lab. Llf provides direct student funding, allowing more time for research, studies, and ultimate success in scientific careers, and supports interns with assigned Lab mentors and access to llnl facilities and resources. In addition, llf leverages llnl's unique supercomputing, bioengineering, and biosciences core competencies to accelerate collective efforts to diagnose, understand, and treat neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (als), alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, and parkinson's.
Roads to removalin 2023, llnl released the roads to removal report a collaborative, national effort by more than 68 scientists and 13 institutions examining regional opportunities in carbon dioxide removal. With support from breakthrough energy, climateworks Foundation and the grantham Foundation for the protection of the environment, llf is leading the national public rollout of this report with a website, videos, and regional convenings and speaking engagements across the united states.
