Program areas at Living Learning Libraries
Living Learning Libraries (LLL) provided over 950 children and teens with access to over 41,000 books selected to encourage youth reading. LLL also provided extensive support and consultation services to help families engage their particular learners in reading, and to meet those students particular academic and developmental needs.
Living Learning Libraries hosted a weekly Summer Story-time from May through July attended by 70 - 120 children per week. Also, approximately monthly during the schoolyear and on various holidays, LLL offered childrens story-time gatherings which included read alouds, historical and arts education, as well as, crafts and other activities. Attendance varied from 40 to 75 children per event.
Parental Education efforts include monthly meetings for parental enrichment through studying education itself and probing books by well-known educators. Specific plans are crafted to help parents overcome student challenges such as reading reluctance or learning difficulties.
Living Learning Libraries assisted educators and parents in meeting specific academic needs through curation services: on a monthly basis, creating or curating customized book and resource plans. These include an International Baccalaureate school (approximately 200 books monthly), large learning cooperatives (600 books monthly for 250 - 300 children), and two smaller learning cooperatives, who are using about 120 books per month.
