Food Service: Soup Kitchen and Food PantryLunch, Mondays through Fridays -- Approximately 22,500 meals, 3,600 pantry bags, and 7,500 sandwich bags were served to clients in need in 2023. Direct Aid and Referrals: 6,751 families were served. Members of 80% of these families, 5,401, are Asylum Hill residents.Masks: Hundreds of masks were given out to all clients who asked for them. Special services: We provided warm coats, gloves, hats, sweatshirts and fleece pullovers to over 250 clients.Job training: The Job Counselor helped with a variety of needs, including looking for work, filing for unemployment, following up on current cases, filling out rental applications, and helping clients study for a driver's license. The Job Counselor saw an average of two clients per week, for a total of over 167 client appointments.Holiday items: Special holiday items were given to children and families at Easter and at Christmas in 2023 including 25 Easter baskets with toys and stuffed animals. We also gave each client a special Thanksgiving pantry bag filled with holiday canned goods and food items with their holiday meal.
