Program areas at LEAP
LEAP's home energy audits, retrofits, and solar installations can reduce home energy use by 30 to 70 percent, drastically reducing the household cost of living and improving energy efficiency. Additional benefits include: Environmental Benefits: Home energy retrofits can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by lowering energy consumption. Health Benefits: Proper insulation and ventilation can help maintain indoor air quality, reduce humidity, and prevent the growth of mold and allergens, which can contribute to better respiratory health. Job Creation: Home energy retrofits create employment opportunities in the construction and energy efficiency sectors, contributing to economic growth. Quality of Life: Energy-efficient homes are often more comfortable and have more stable indoor temperatures, which can improve residents' overall quality of life.
LEAP runs a campaign called Solarize Virginia, to catalyze residential solar installations. Over the past ten years, LEAP signed up more than 12,000 Virginians for Solarize Virginia through community outreach and partnerships with municipalities and community-based organizations. This program provides homeowners with basic education about PV solar arrays, a free satellite assessment to determine the solar potential of their roof and a connection to one of LEAP's verified installation partners. Throughout the process, LEAP provides additional customer service and mediation, as needed. Since 2014, LEAP's partners have installed solar on over 1,400 homes throughout the state of Virginia, for a total of 12MW and valued at more than $12.1 million.
The Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) is a leading provider of weatherization services to both market-rate and low-income residents throughout the state of Virginia. With its weatherization program, LEAP serves hundreds of households a year with energy audits and the direct installation of energy-saving measures. For low-income households, LEAP implements multiple and complex utility programs that provide assistance including Dominion's Energy Share and Health and Safety programs. These programs are delivered to low-income residents living in mobile homes, multifamily, single-family attached, and single-family detached homes. Client outreach and coordination are essential to serving the hundreds of clients' LEAP services annually with weatherization services.
