Program areas at Lonesome Pine Arts and Crafts
The trail of the Lonesome Pine outdoor drama has been presented each summer continuously since 1963 using local volunteers. It is also the official outdoor drama for the commonwealth of Virginia. The screen play was adapted from the book "the trail of the Lonesome Pine" written by john fox, jr., a local author. The play concerns life in southwest Virginia in the early 1900's.
The june tolliver house is the actual home of the main female character in the trail of the Lonesome Pine. It has been preserved and is listed as a historical home on the national register of historical structures. It now provides tours and a gift shop for the sale of locally produced Arts, Crafts, and books.
The john fox, jr. museum is the home of the late john fox, jr. Which has been preserved and now serves as a museum as well as providing an elegant setting for performers, banquets, weddings, etc.
