Best start central Long Beach: best start central Long Beach is a network that brings parents, caregivers, community organizations, and policymakers together to change policies and systems that improve the lives of children 0-5 and their families. The network focuses on improving childcare access, housing and economic security, healthy parenting, and child abuse prevention.
Best start community change projects: these projects are community-led projects that are designed by members of best start central Long Beach and voted on and funded by the entire best start central Long Beach partnership via participatory budgeting. All the projects advance one of four goals in the collective community change agenda through policy and systems change. This round of projects included fathers first, teaching and empowering tenants, leaders for change, home visitation collaorative and social media safety.
Healthy justice and equitable land use: the goal of this program is to build community knowledge on the root causes of housing and neighborhood inequities and win policies that advance safe and affordable housing, inclusive and heath-centered zoning, and multimodal transportation across the city. The program has focuses on rezoning efforts along the anaheim street corridor, the downtown and shoreline communities, and tenant protection policies citywide.
