Program areas at Look Up Center
Opportunity store: receives, collects, sorts and displays donations of clothing, furniture, appliances and household goods. The store sells/gives away items to meet needs of the community. The store is operated to provide the opportunity to buy and gain ownership of items allowing people a step Up at lower costs than thrift or for profit stores. Thousands of people are able to get clothing and other household basic needs each year. Income from sales help provide a portion of the cost of the store.
Community service: this program encompasses a number of services to meet needs including providing essentials. It gave free coats, thanksgiving meals, christmas gifts for kids, craft training, bible studies, movies and other events. In 2023 a network was established for blind providing information and education on how to use technology to overcome some of the barriers of the blind.
Trades program:provides nccer training, testing and international certification for basic construction skills. Day-one-ready electrician training provided. Osha 10 safety training and certification are included. Fork truck driving certification is also included. The program includes financial management, stress management, exercise and diet. Training and mentorship in various life skills is provided in a christ focused environment.
The dental clinic: provides free tooth extractions and dental hygiene to individuals meeting income requirements. Medicare/medicaid and many medical insurance plans provide limited or no dental treatment. Often issues are not addressed until they become more severe. Lum has a fully equipped dental facility with a manager, volunteer dentists and hygenists who provide treatment.
Lift transportation: this program utilizes a bus to provide transportation to those who need rides for Look Up programs or to other locations at no charge.
Pre-school program: glory rising is an onsite pre-school that started in 2022. It provides teaching. Crafts, games and bible school in a christian environment for children ages 2-5. School is three days a week.
Vision clinic: the vision clinic provides eye examinations and glasses, if needed to individuals meeting income guidelines at no cost. It is operated by a trained, licensed individual. The vision clinic was closed at the end of 2023 will be permanently closed.
