Los Angeles Maritime Institute serves to empower youth through extraordinary at-sea experiences aboard educational sailing vessels. The organization provides character building, leadership development, and maritime vocational training for at-risk youth. Youth become part of the ship's crew during hands-on sail training voyages that offer education and adventure experiences. During the fiscal year ended 6/30/21, LAMI was forced to shut down "in-person" sails due to unforeseen circumstances.

Program areas at Los Angeles Maritime Institute

The Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) has provided youth and young adults with the opportunity to directly benefit from hands-on learning experiences through our programs that use sail training to help them develope team building, problem-solving, decision-making, planning, self-reliance and leadership skills. The organization gives real life context to STEM subjects and raises awareness about the environmental impacts to oceans and local waters through the TopSail Youth Program, TopSail STEM Program, Sea Scout Ship 1992, summer camp, bilingual sails, public sails and more. LAMI is proud to empower youth from under-resourced and marginalized communities thanks to the generous support of the comunity, and the organization contiues to rely on
