Program areas at LAPF

The Los Angeles Police Foundation (lapf) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides critical resources and vital support to the lapd. With 96% of the lapd's budget spent on personnel, there is little left for major projects that will enhance efficiency and modernization of the department. Lapf has donated nearly $53,000,000 to the lapd in the areas of equipment and technology upgrades, specialized training, community outreach, and youth programs.a few of the grants approved in 2023 are highlighted below:recruitment marketing - $1,075,000these funds were used to supplement the marketing budget recruitment division is being given by the city to attract new, qualified recruits. Since 2020, the lapd is down more than 1,000 sworn officers. Attracting qualified recruits is, perhaps, the greatest challenge facing the lapd today. Approximately $60,000 of the funds will be used to hire, with input and collaboration from the lapf, a market research firm to do focus groups, use ai, etc. To test recruitment messages and find out what works, what doesn't, and where the lapd needs to be targeting their efforts.youth cadet community engagement - $61,272funds from these grants were disbursed to the divisional cadet posts within the youth cadet leadership program. The youth cadet leadership program strongly focuses on youth development, leadership and community stewardship. Youth cadets volunteer at various department and community events. The funds will aid the cadet posts throughout the department with recruitment, outings and events.air support gym - $45,000these funds were used to purchase new gym equipment for air support division. Their old equipment was damaged in an accidental release of caustic fire-retardent chemicals.
