Program areas at Lubuto Library Partners
Construction of a new Library at the st. daniel comboni sisters in lusaka was mostly completed during the year, with funds from usaid american schools and hospitals abroad (asha). Additionally, asha-funded renovation and construction of the Lubuto model Library commenced and advanced during the year.
With funding from the templeton foundation's innovations in character development program, the updated combined lubutomentoring and stepping stones srh (sexual and reproductive health) curriculum mentoring (and identification and recruitment of cohorts) was carried out throughout the year by Lubuto staff trained in the mentoring.
Staffs at four Lubuto libraries provided comprehensive Library services to children and teens in the communities they serve in zambia. These services include daily read-aloud programs and individual readers' advisory, film presentations, visual arts and drama programs, mentoring and counseling including hiv/aids prevention programs, outreach, and use of computers and computer-based literacy lessons in zambian languages. These programs were carried out regularly at the nabukuyu, mthunzi and choma libraries, and to a limited extent at the model Library, whose activities were limited after the 2021 fire and then during reconstruction/construction but they were offered in safe outdoor spaces. New staff were hired and trained to work at the Library in nabukuyu.
