Program areas at Luke Chapter Moaa
Educational and fraternal dinners and programs. Eight in-person dinner and program events most with speakers were held October 2022 through May 2023. Speakers and programs included Lt Gen Dana Atkins, President and CEO of MOAA, ace Navy WWII figher pilot CDR Lester Gray, Vietnam rescue helicopter pilot LTC Bruce Crandall, Thaddeus Rose Band, Maj Gene with Afghanistan experiences, John Voehl as Abe Lincoln, Gail Joyce, surviving spouse liaison on the MOAA Council, and others. About 80-110 members, spouses and guests participated in each program event, for a total of approx 733 persons benefited.
Communications and Special Events: NewsGram is published eight of twelve months to keep members informed of events and opportunities of the organization, including charitable grants to needy active duty and veterans of the United States uniformed services; all members potentially benefit from these activities. Approx 325 copies of the NewsGram are distributed to chapter members and the public. In addition, the organization provided closed captions of text during most of the lectures for deaf and hearing impaired persons in the audience.
Charitable Grants to Veterans: Funds provided by Military Officers Association of America Community Foundation, Arizona Department of Veterans Services and by individual members of the organization were granted to needy veterans and active-duty military personnel and their families in Phoenix and other communities in Arizona. Grants were made for essential household expenses, such as food, rent, utilities, car repairs and other household necessities. Six veterans received financial grants ranging from $1,090 to $2,000, and approx 60 active-duty and 240 family members benefited from commissary gift cards. Total benefited persons were approx 306.
