Program areas at Luminaria
LUMINARIA CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL:Luminaria is best known for its free Contemporary Arts Festival which draws thousands of people to the downtown area each year. The festival featured over 100 individual artists featuring fine art, film, poetry, large art installations, digital art, and live music. Artists from the San Antonio area comprised the majority of Featured Artists accompanied by artists from Austin, Laredo, Houston, New York City, Mexico City, Monterrey, the Netherlands, South Korea, UK, Syria, and Palestine.
LUMINARIA ARTIST FOUNDATION GRANT PROGRAMSThe Working Artist Fund continues to award up to $550 for professional development activities per artist living and working in Bexar County. Fifteen out of 58 applicants were awarded for support with workshops, travel, supplies and materials, photoshoots, mentorship, website development, and marketing initiatives. To date, the Working Artist Fund has awarded $89,831 to 175 artists.
LUMINARIA PLACEMAKINGIn the Summer of 2023, Luminaria held concerts at The Espee at St. Paul Square. On July 26, Luminaria presents an evening dedicated to Women in the Arts featuring performances by indie-synth artist Ila Minori, high femme starlet Shayla Shimmy, singer-songwriter Satara, and a glith synth pop music experience by Brainwavve. On August 30, Luminaria presents an evening of Tex-Mex Music & Musings featuring Max and Josh Baca of Los Texmaniacs and Afro-Native American singer-songwriter Nicky Diamonds. Plus, spoken word by taco-poet Eddie Vega.
