Program areas at Lupus Foundation of America Lone Star Chapter
The Lupus Foundation of America Lone Star Chapter is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by Lupus through programs of research, education, support, and advocacy, serving over 200 Texas counties, from amarillo to texarkana, dallas/fort worth, austin, lubbock, san antonio, the valley, and el paso. In the 2022-2023 year, the organization: responded to more than 3,500 inquiries via phone and at community events. Educated more than 1,500 individuals through 8 virtual support groups, 6 teleconferences, the Lupus summit, and 6 virtual workshops. These programs are conducted by physicians, nurses, and certified volunteers. Provided electronic newsletter, "Lupus news," issued quarterly and distributed to 25,000 constituents with up-to-date information and news about Lupus. Conducted social media outreach with regular postings, including facebook with 6,500+ followers, twitter with 1,600+ followers, and instagram with 850+ followers. Held the "walk to end Lupus now" event in three cities, dallas/fort worth and virtual events in austin and san antonio. The event provided Lupus awareness and education. The event also provided important revenue to support the Chapter's programs and services free of charge to constituents. The Chapter served over 15,000 individuals through direct services funded by these events with the help of more than 500 volunteer hours.
